Our Key Points

6.5 Reasons Why Every Child Is Our Focus At Aroona

1. Happy, Safe and Nurturing Environment

Our centre takes pride in providing a nurturing, caring environment where each child is treated treated as an individual and they are able to develop to their full potential.

Each child is made to feel welcome into our extended family. We are committed to working with you to provide the ideal learning environment for your child. Our families have told us the reason why they have chosen Aroona is because of the safe, friendly and trusting environment we share with their children.

2. Family Owned and Operated

Families love their children to be with families. When you enter the doors at our centre you will be greeted by the owners who work and play along with your child.

Aroona is a family owned and operated business since 2002 and we previously owned a centre in Brisbane from 1995 to 2002.

With 22 years experience in the Early Childhood Industry, we are passionate and have the knowledge to enhance your child’s development whilst at the centre. We pride ourselves in caring for your most treasured possessions as if they were our own.

3. Long Term, Qualified and Experienced Educators

All our educators are highly trained and experienced in providing care and educational programs within early childhood settings.

Our amazing educators have an average of 10 years working and educating children in our centre.

All educators hold a Blue Card, current First Aid and CPR Certificates, Asthma and Anaphylaxis training.

They are regularly involved in and encouraged to attend further professional development and training. Our aim is to provide a safe, warm, caring atmosphere where each child receives the best opportunities for al individual development.

We encourage parents and families to communicate frequently with your child’s educators as we believe that working together is in the best interest of your child.

4. Open Door Policy

We aim to create a welcoming environment where families and your aspirations for your children are respected. Parents and families are welcome at the centre at any time. Your participation sends a strong positive message to your child that supports them and you are part of our child care environment.

We understand and appreciate that time is of the essence for most families, so we welcome any form of involvement you may have to offer.

We believe that communication is vital to the success of your child’s care.

5. Child Initiated Educational Programs

Our centre provides child centered programs based on the interests and needs of the individual child. Our curriculum is underpinned by the Early Years Learning Framework. We believe that all children are naturally strong, capable learners worthy of our trust and support. We look to each child to help guide us in their learning.

Here at Aroona we have adopted the “Emergent Curriculum” approach to learning. Emergent Curriculum is planning the focus of learning or what happens in the classroom, as a result of the interactions between educators and children. The Emergent Curriculum is socially and intellectually engaging and personally meaningful to children. Educators follow the children’s lead and then introduce new and exciting activities to sustain their interests and deepen their explorations. Our emphasis is focused on developing social skills, problem solving skills, fostering independence and building foundations for lifelong learning.

Our educators strive to capture your child’s development and participation in the program by documenting learning in individual portfolios. Not only do portfolios provide an insight into your child’s learning, they also make the quality of our teaching practice visible to you. These portfolios are available to families and children throughout the day. You are encouraged to contribute to your child’s portfolio by sharing anecdotes, stories from home, photos, art works or any memorabilia that tells of your child’s life and his or her learning journey.

6. Preparing for Prep

Starting school is an important milestone in any young child’s life as well as for their family. Our Kindy room has a qualified teacher who goes the extra mile to ensure your child is prepared both socially and academically.

“Prep readiness” is always presented as a fun exciting experience. It should not be seen as a chore or something that has to be done. Children will never learn if they are forced to do it and they will never gain a passion for learning. We offer experiences every day in a variety of situations and allow the children to further their skills in a non-confrontational way.

Many parents in the past have asked that the children develop skills in writing their names, shape and colour recognition, cutting skills, matching and sequencing. We agree that these are important and they are addressed through everyday experiences and through the children’s choices in their play. Every child develops at their own unique pace and by forcing children to complete activities, learning becomes a chore instead of fun!

We believe our goal is to instill in our children the love of learning and to be able to find their transition to prep a positive and rewarding step. We hope when our children leave Aroona they have become self – confident, independent, able to express themselves, curious about the world around them, a leader with their peers and passionate about gaining knowledge.

6.5 Extra Curricular Activities & Incursions

Throughout the year all the children at Aroona will have the opportunity to participate in extra-curricular activities and shows that will enhance their learning and ties to the community. Learning to be part of our wider community is important for young children. It allows them to explore their community and develops the children’s understanding of the world around them. The activities provide extra learning experiences that are quite exciting as they are different to the everyday routines at the centre. We hold these incursions and special events at different times of the year, depending on the educational value, availability, developmental appropriateness and the weather.

Also at Aroona, children have the opportunity to participate in weekly classes with Sporty Tots and Yoga.
